Hi all,

New Windsor School had a successful Road Safety Week with lots of great posters promoting road safety, speed laser guns measuring speed of passing motorists and "Be Seen, Be Safe" Day on Friday (see photo below). This was also Pink Shirt Day for anti-bullying. Posters will be judged next week with three prizes up for grabs - a $50 Westfield voucher, $30 Westfield voucher and $20 Westfield voucher. Students also put their best foot forward in the Cross Country yesterday. Many of Room 15 students finished in the top ten which means they will be invited to run in the Inter-School Cross Country. Stars of the Week were Sahar, Pia, Ayesha, Tobias and Shalom. Have a great weekend and I'll see you on Monday.

Hi all,

A belated Happy Mother's Day to all the mothers - I hope your children spoiled you rotten. It has been a busy week in Room 15 with DMIC (Developing Mathematics In Communities) mentors from Massey University visiting every day. This is a new way of teaching maths which New Windsor School has adopted and the teachers are going through an intensive three-year training programme. Ask your child about it. 

Next week is Road Safety Week. "Be Seen, Be Safe" Day is on Friday, May 21st - encourage your child to wear bright clothes. Throughout the week children will create posters to promote three messages - "Drop children off outside school", "Yellow lines mean no stopping" and "Slow down around schools". If your child is at school from 8.20-8.45am on Thursday they could get to use a speed laser gun.

This week Room 15 students wrote Describing poems, using adjectives and verbs. Check out Sahar and Viral's poems below.

Hi all,

Welcome back to Term 2. It has been a great week with Science in a Van visiting and teaching students about forces, sound and bubbles. This term they will learn about the Living World - in particular plants, trees and ecosystems. This week students 'planted' bean seeds and will watch them germinate and grow over coming weeks. There are three of them in each cup surrounded by tissue paper which they will wet each day - see photos below. Stars of the Week were Joshua, Pia, Shuaib, Leah-Anela and Anthony. Friday, April 16th

Hi all,

We made it! Your child has certainly earned a well-deserved break. Today we made a pineapple cake to celebrate the end of term. It's simple if you want to make it at home. Just 2 cups self raising flour, one cup of sugar and a can of crushed pineapple. Mix well and put into cake tin. Bake for 40 minutes at 180 degrees. It's nice served hot with icecream. Stars of the Week were Joseph, Viral, Bahes, Pia, Sahar, Shuaib, Prisha and Leah. This week students wrote haiku poems. I have included those who published on this blog. Enjoy! Friday, April 9th

Hi all,

We have reached the end of another week and lots of learning. In science, students learned about circuits and how electricity is conducted to make things work. They made their own simple circuits to operate LED lights (see photos below). There is just one more week to go till the April holidays. At this stage of the term children are tired and it often shows in their behaviour. Make sure they have time to unwind and relax this weekend. We are nearly there! Stars of the Week were Ayesha, Prisha, Juwairiah, Kiri and Mele.

Week 9 - Thursday, April 1st

Hi all,

It was great seeing you all these last two days and discussing your child's learning. Your child has been busy lately and they have certainly earned a well-deserved Easter break. Week 8 - Friday March 26th

Hi all,

What a fun week it has been with Khalid coming in his pizza truck and the students designing their own food truck business. This has been great integration of maths, reading, writing and art. Swimming has come to an end and students have learned lots. In reading this week students read a book about New Zealand birds then looked for them around school (see photos below). Stars of the Week are Bahes for his contributions at Circle Time and Kiri for his great reading.
