Friday, November 26th

Hi all,

It was our first whole week back since the lockdown ended. Students have settled in quickly and have been working hard. A highlight of the week was pasta art - see photos below. Today was Pyjama Day which was also fun. Next week students will practice their speeches then present to the class. Can you please remind them to put this in their bag? Secret Santa presents can come in any time between now and the end of school, December 15th. Stars of the Week were Wil, Tobias, Harsh, Prisha and Shuiab.

Have a great weekend.

Friday, November 19th

Hi all,

It has been a busy week with most Room 15 students back at school and others doing distance learning at home. It has been nice to be in front of the students again and being back to some sense of normality.

At school one of the highlights was making tangrams - a form of art that originated from China over 200 years ago. It's like a miniature jigsaw puzzle with seven different shapes interlocking to form a square. See photos below.

Stars of the week were Viral, Sahar, Wil, Pia, Kiri and Anthony.

Have a good weekend and I'll see you on Monday.

Friday, November 12th

Hi all,

Well, we finally have a date for school going back - November 17th. I am excited about seeing Room 15 students in person again. Thank you for being patient as we put plans in place to ensure your child can return to school safely.  Also, thank you to all the parents who have been in touch to confirm their child's attendance. If you haven't done so, can you please let me know by Monday? Email: khenderson@newwindsor.school.nz

Sadly, our last swimming lessons had to be cancelled. All assemblies, events and trips in Term 4 have also been cancelled. Here's hoping we can move on from 2021 and look forward to a brighter 2022.

It has been another busy week of Distance Learning with lots of work shared. I am looking forward to hearing speeches at school next week. Stars of the Week were Wil, Viral and Farhaan. Well done boys! See me next week for your prizes. You can see some of their work below.

Have a great weekend.

Friday, November 5th

Hi all,

It has been a week of celebrations with Diwali and now Guy Fawkes tonight. Make sure you take care if letting fireworks off with your children. Students of Room 15 have had lots of fun this week with Diwali activities in their Distance Learning as well as in the bubbles at school.

We are hoping to get more clarity from the government on Monday about school returning and how it will look. One idea is that students have staggered days at school and Distance Learning will continue when they're at home.

Stars of the Week are Wil, Aleena, Farhaan, Viral and Harsh - you can see some of their work below.

Have a great weekend.

HAPPY DIWALI!

Friday, October 29th

Hi all,

The highlight of this week would have to be the government's announcement that Year 1-8 students can tentatively return to school on November 15th. This lockdown has been very challenging for everyone and it will be great to put it behind us - albeit with restrictions.

Well done Wil, Viral and Sahar for completing your speech and sharing with me. I look forward to receiving others and hearing them when we go back to school.

There has been lots of other good work shared with me this week and we had fun on our zoom sessions. I even had a lesson in being clear with my instructions - I told a student to "open another window" on his computer then he promptly stood up, walked across the room and opened the window.

Stars of the week are Wil, Aleena, Prisha and Farhaan - I have shared some of their work below. I particularly liked Wil's photo montage of him being responsible and tidying his bedroom. Well done Wil!

Have a great weekend and I'll see you on Monday.

Friday, October 22nd

Hi all,

I hope you had a relaxing break. Students in Room 15 have had a good first week back and it was nice seeing them on the daily zooms. Years 11-13 are back on Tuesday and we are hoping for more clarity on that day regarding going back ourselves. The rising number of Delta cases is a bit worrying.

Make sure your child does all the work on the class site each day and shares it with me. They can always go back to previous slides from any week to complete unfinished work. Keep working on those speeches also - there won't be a cluster competition but everyone will present their speech to the class when we return to school. It is good to see students doing work from the ministry's books. Stars of this week were Viral, Prisha and Farhaan.

Have a great long weekend and I'll see everyone on zoom at 9.30am on Tuesday.

Mr Henderson.

Friday. October 1st

Hi all,

We made it! Today marks the end of a rather turbulent term. Thank you for all your mahi with your children - it hasn't been easy but everyone has shown New Windsor Way values to get through.

On a positive note, despite the spike in new Delta cases on Wednesday, the government is indicating a drop to Level 2 (with restrictions) next week. It looks like we won't be able to leave Auckland but more businesses can open and we can begin to rebuild the economy. I am looking forward to having a meal out and visiting my barber PLUS school will be open again for all children from October 18th. Let's all cross our fingers and hope the government follows through.

Even though we may not be able to go to our bach out of Auckland these holidays, or visit friends and relatives, I hope you have a relaxing break at home with NO school work. If we move to Level 2 we should be able to move around Auckland more. If so, I plan to head to the beach and do some day trips around our beautiful region.

I'd like to finish this blog with a special thanks to students of Room 15, especially those who attended the zoom meetings regularly. I feel these have made a difference to the lockdown as we have continued to connect. They were also lots of fun! Everyone has worked so hard in trying times and I have enjoyed seeing all your mahi. Stars of this week were Wil, Viral, Farhaan and Harsh. See me next term for your prize boys.
